Bugatti Automobiles has once again developed the fastest "almost standard" car in the world and overclocked the prototype of its Chiron coupe to unthinkable 490 km / h. And despite the fact that the record was not counted (why, now we'll find out), the French have proven that cars capable of overcoming the 500km / h frontier soon become public roads can drive.
The fastest car in the world
Earlier in the morning, the Volkswagen Ring in Germany was extremely loud – here Bugatti decided to test their fastest car. And although the manufacturer is somewhat insincere and calls this Chiron modification "almost standard", it has a number of differences from the usual model. On the one hand, the engine output with 16 cylinders and four (!) Turbochargers was increased from 1,500 to 1,600 hp. The aerodynamics were also refined: To increase the output (ie to reduce the aerodynamic drag), the rear of the vehicle was enlarged by up to 25 centimeters. For the same reason, the exhaust pipes protrude slightly behind the body (and what, the hot exhaust gases also reduce the aerodynamics!).
But that's not all. Especially for this car, a chassis has been developed that reduces the ground clearance to a minimum of only 5 centimeters with laser sensors. Michelin prepared special tires for the coupe and the organizers of the test took and dumped all the excess into the car to make it easier, including the passenger seat.
For this reason, the speed record of the "production car" Bugatti was not rated, even if the coupe was distributed to 490 km / h. But is it so important that the car could accelerate to such a speed? In addition, the company wants to use most of the lotions in the road-top version of the Chiron Super Sport coupe. See how it was.
The last speed record for the production car Bugatti was set up in 2010. Then the French managed to accelerate their supercar Veyron to a speed of 431 kilometers per hour. For seven (!) Years, none of the other automakers could beat this record (although attempts were made – details in our Yandex.Zen channel), but in 2017 the pilot of the Swedish car Koenigsegg Agera RS managed a speed of 447 km / h , When driving on a public highway in Nevada.
The same manufacturer then spanned Bugatti in the acceleration time from 0 to 400 km / h. The Bugatti super sports car took 42 seconds, while the Koenigsegg Agera RS only needed 36.44 seconds to complete the combat mission.

Now the Königsegg has a new task – to distribute one of their cars at 500 kilometers per hour. To set a record among the production cars, it is enough if they break their previous record, because the Bugatti Chiron was not recognized as a "production car".
Car speed record
If we're not just talking about production cars, then the car's highest speed was already reached in 1997 by racing driver Andy Green on a Thrust SSC car. Two aircraft engines accelerated to 1000 km / h in only 16 seconds.
And in 2015, the British company Bloodhound SSC created the eponymous car, which can accelerate to 1287 km / h. So far, the car could not break the record of 20 years ago – the company has no more money. The test is to remain this year: The car wants, if you can call it that, at 960 km / h sprinkle.
