Tesla is mainly known as a manufacturer of electric cars and semitrailer tractors. However, in 2017, Elon Musk talked about developing a proprietary electric pickup. After a few years of regular rumors about the future light truck, the novelty was finally presented as part of the presentation on 21 November in Los Angeles. The pickup was called Tesla Cybertruck and had, as expected, a futuristic design, but this is clearly not what we expected.
Details about the Tesla Cybertruck Truck were told by Ilon Musk himself, whose performance can be seen on YouTube. Like many other cars of the company, the novelty will be available in three different versions, which differ in performance and duration of work with a single load. Depending on the modification, the pickup will be equipped with one, two or three electric motors, but all versions will invariably be all-wheel drive. A battery is enough to overcome 400, 480 or 800 kilometers. The older version will accelerate to 100 km / h in about 2.9 seconds. The cost of a Tesla Cybertruck pickup is $ 40, $ 50, or $ 70,000.
Undoubtedly, the technical characteristics are good – the fact that the truck can accelerate like a car is impressive. The only thing that bothers you is the lack of distinguishing features. For example, the Rivian R1T truck competing with a Tesla pickup may share power with other cars, and Tesla has been unable to provide the new product with a glow of such a feature.
Tesla electric pickup
So far we have seen the approximate appearance of the electric Tesla pickup many times over. It turned out that the rumors were not true – the novelty looks quite different than it has shown us. Instead of the car of the future by Blade Runner, the presentation showed something similar to the spooky version of the legendary DeLorean DMC-12. The body of the novelty is made of durable steel and, according to Elon Mask, is able to withstand the impact of a 9 mm caliber bullet. The goggles are armored with proprietary Tesla technology, so drivers and passengers are most likely completely safe. Only one thing is confusing – during the presentation, Elon Musk asked the assistant to throw a metal ball into the glass and it shattered.
It is also very suspicious that Tesla has launched such a durable car with firearms protection on the market. Maybe Elon Musk knows something about the upcoming zombie apocalypse?
In addition, the truck is equipped with air suspension, which allows you to adjust the height of each axle. The load capacity of the older version is 1600 kilograms. The high power of novelty has been proven by a clear example in which he easily tows a competing Ford F150 electric pickup that simultaneously drives in the opposite direction.
On his Twitter, Elon Musk said that the design of the car was inspired by the James Bond movie The Spy Who Loved Me.
Undoubtedly, the car looks very futuristic, but are we ready to see such vehicles on public roads? We are all used to making cars neat and smooth. So whether people buy such vehicles is a big question. However, you can order Tesla Cybertruck today on the company's official website after paying only $ 100. But it will not be possible to drive it soon – pickup production will not start until the end of 2021.
As part of the presentation, Elon Musk mentioned that the pickup used the same materials that were used to make SpaceX space rockets.
In terms of image, the interior of the scooter is minimalist in design – as well as the interior of all Tesla cars. However, unlike passenger cars, the interior of a pickup truck appears too tight, which may not appeal to most potential buyers. The cabin can accommodate one driver and five passengers. On the front there is traditionally a huge screen, on which various functions such as the autopilot system and the automatic parking can be accommodated. Most likely you can also play games in an electric pickup.
It's worth noting that this is not the first electric pickup on the car market. In 2018, a small American company Rivian Automotive demonstrated an electric motor car. Find out more in our special material.
