And one of the largest companies of its kind recently named the safest electric car. And that is not Tesla.

Who checks cars for safety

Mostly, the organizer is the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, an American non-profit organization funded by auto insurance companies. Their activities aim to reduce the number of traffic accidents and the damage and severity of injuries sustained in accidents. The company has been providing safety ratings for popular passenger cars and consumer goods related to road safety since the 1950s.

The company's specialists last tested the Audi E-tron SUV 2019. And, as you may have guessed, it received the highest rating from qualified experts. In addition, the E-tron is the first electric car to be awarded the TOP SAFETY PICK +. To receive such an award, you must perfectly pass six collision tests that simulate different traffic situations, as well as get an excellent (or good) rating on the quality of the headlights and the operation of the brake and front collision avoidance systems.

The Audi E-tron has proven itself in crash tests and received excellent marks in tests for impact from the driver, front and front passenger impact. Somewhat worse (but still not beyond the excellent ratings) has Audi E-tron shock tests in the roof, trunk and rear occupants managed. The off-road collision avoidance system avoided the collision in the test at a speed of 40 kilometers per hour. With the "intelligent" system, it was possible to reduce the speed from an emergency to an obstacle by more than two times (up to 17 km / h).

The only component that was not rated "very good" (but only "good") are the headlights. Low beam, turn signals and brake signals are not satisfactory. However, the high beam could not fully satisfy the "examiners" due to insufficient illumination angle. However, experts praised the proprietary high-beam assistance system, which automatically switches between low beam and high beam depending on the presence of other nearby vehicles.

In the area of ​​recent events, experts have been paying more and more attention to the safety of electric vehicles as electric motor cars are becoming more popular and affordable (though their prices are not dropping as fast as we would like).
