As the practice shows, many users still do not change the battery of the smartphone because they consider it expensive. As a result, they use the power bank to the end or go constantly with the words "Does anyone have a phone charger?" In the room. Everyone has such friends.

Now imagine that you bought a car for about a hundred thousand dollars. Drive it, enjoy life, but in one moment it starts to malfunction and does not give the desired mileage. They come into the salon and receive a price tag for replacing the battery at a price that ranges between one-quarter and one-half the cost of the car. Unpleasant, what? And in this case, conversations like "they bought Tesla – they did not have money" are not accepted because tens of thousands of dollars are spent on the machine simply not being on wheels, which is a lot for everyone.

Anyone who has bought a car to drive it, and does not sell or break it within a year can face such a situation. Modern electric cars generally have a much larger resource than their battery. Even Elon Musk said his cars are designed for a mileage of up to a million miles (more than 1.6 million kilometers). This applies to all components except the battery. As a result, the battery dies in front of the car. It will be like this with Tesla, that's the way it will be with Porsche Taycan, that's the way it will be with Jaguar F-Pace, so it will be e-trone with Audi, that's how it will be with everyone …

Perspectives for the development of electric vehicles

Despite my dual attitude to electric vehicles, which I have already stated several times, they sooner or later become our main means of transport. The technology will of course continue, and the first steps have now been taken.

The current generation of batteries in electric cars "runs" a maximum of 700-800 thousand kilometers. There is no doubt – it is not a little, but it is in ideal conditions, which means punctual service, good movement, a well-kept driving style, a thrifty climate and much more. In any case you can face the first problems after 150-200 thousand kilometers.

To counteract this, the company, which recently made the current generation of batteries for Tesla, began developing a new generation of batteries that last up to one and a half million kilometers. Here is the application!

Such batteries are not even of particular concern to individual users traveling 20,000 kilometers a year, but to a taxi, including an automated, unmanned taxi. It can really be used.

What does the battery of the future look like?

If you think that the batteries described above are only present in the project, in the creator's mind, or at worst on paper, you are mistaken. The prototypes of the batteries are not only already created, but are already fully tested.

According to the testers, the battery has already proven that it can reliably serve an electric car up to one million kilometers. This is at least twice as much as the current generation of batteries. Now work is being done to increase reliability and turn the prototype into an industrial design.

It looks like a new battery type for Tesla

A battery is nothing fundamentally new. This is the same Li-Ion battery of a single-chip cathode, but only a new generation. An additional contribution to the resource was made by a novel electrolyte. During the tests, experiments were carried out with different electrolytes, including those that support fast charging. The final version has not yet been selected, but all have shown varying degrees, and their creators will still choose the best option.

The battery test is carried out under different charging and load conditions. For example, the charge-discharge cycle has been tested at temperatures above 50 degrees Celsius. This is good and allows you to use a car in California and even in Death Valley, the hottest point in the world. What about negative temperatures? There is no answer yet.

Temperature studies have shown that batteries can normally run 4000 charge / discharge cycles even at a temperature of 40 degrees Celsius. Using Tesla's proprietary cooling system will increase the number of cycles by at least one and a half times.

Advantages of a new generation of batteries

Above, I have already given an example of those who find it useful to have a longer battery life in their electric car. I would like to remind you that these were taxi drivers. In addition, more resource-intensive batteries find their place in commercial vehicles such as trucks, chargers, and other machines that work from morning to night, even without stopping when operators work in shifts.

All this will not only increase the attractiveness of electric cars and rob them of one of the biggest drawbacks, but also make the idea of ​​electrotransport as a whole known. Imagine how much more public transport companies, taxi fleets and logistics companies are willing to invest in "battery-powered traffic". Especially if the price of new batteries does not increase the cost of the final product.

And what are the prospects for home storage devices that store the energy absorbed by solar panels? So far, the operating costs, taking into account the resource, the acquisition and maintenance costs do not significantly outweigh the conventional methods for power generation. When the batteries run a lot longer, there are such chances that it just uhhhhhh … Let's wait, but much will change soon. Only one battery, but it can change everything!
